Welcome! We’re Russ and Maggie, and this is Year One of building our homestead in our 50s with God, grit, and gumption.
Nestled on nearly five acres in Heard County, Georgia, we’re creating a life that’s rooted in faith, hard work, and a willingness to learn as we go. We started with a couple of dogs and cats, and within just a few months our little homestead grew to include ducks, rabbits, pigs, goats, and geese. Every animal is raised with ethical, humane care, plenty of enrichment, and lots of love.
This year we’ve also planted an orchard and started two gardens. They’ve taught us far more than we expected! We’re learning about our soil, working to restore its health, and discovering how our property’s unique microclimates affect what grows best. Along the way, we’re giving ourselves plenty of grace for the successes, the failures, and everything in between.
Has it been chaotic? Absolutely. But it’s also been deeply rewarding. We’re embracing the challenges, celebrating the victories, and finding joy in the kind of work that leaves you tired, dirty, grateful, and fulfilled at the end of the day.
